Although Brett Rogers is in the midst of preparing for the biggest fight of his career, WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko took a slight break from his training camp to tie the knot over the weekend. This certainly isn’t the first time MMA’s Terminator has earned a gold crown.
Emelianenko was married in his hometown of Stary Oskol, Russia, and in sticking with a traditional Russian Orthodox ceremony, was presented with a gold crown, signifying he is king of their household.
She must now obey all of his demands and do everything he says for the rest of her life. Just kidding, if not wishful thinking, but “The Emperor” did get hitched his weekend, so hands off all you Russian MMA groupies.
With his highly anticipated debut on American network television slated for November 7th on CBS, the timing for the wedding is rather intriguing. It was reported that Team Fedor wasn’t happy with the amount of distractions Emelianenko allowed into his world as he prepared for his “Affliction: Day of Reckoning” fight against Andrei Arlovski last year.
Although he was finally able to put the former UFC champion away, they hoped his sluggish start in that contest would have grounded and focused the heavyweight as stiffer challenges lie ahead.
However, Fedor’s resume speaks for itself as he posts a ridiculous 30-1 professional record. He’s in the midst of a 26-fight winning streak that spans eight years, and could likely go down as the best to ever put on a pair of MMA gloves. So, you can clearly understand why he might walk around with a certain swagger.
But, don’t think for a second that it would be the first time a decorated champ got fat and happy and fell to the hands of an unproven, yet much hungrier, challenger.
“Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers” will be jumping off inside the Sears Centre Arena in Chicago, Illinois.
