UFC Light Heavyweight Forrest Griffin

Former light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz was unable to retire on a winning note at UFC 148, as he once again came up short against Forrest Griffin (Pictured).

It was an emotional day for the man who will forever be known as “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy.” Hours before he took the cage for the final time, Ortiz gave a tearful speech when he was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.

Although Ortiz felt he did enough to get his hand raised on Saturday night, it was Griffin who was awarded with a unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) victory to complete their trilogy with a 2-1 edge.

Immediately after the contest concluded, but before the official scores were rendered, Griffin bolted towards the locker room before being chased down by UFC president Dana White. The original winner of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ then went on to steal Ortiz’s mic time, which robbed the Hall of Famer of one final opportunity to say goodbye.

On a brighter note, White awarded the former 205-pound champs with ‘Fight of the Night’ honors for their 15-minute affair. Each athlete took home an additional $75,000.

UFC 148 took place inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
