After finishing Chael Sonnen for the second time in two years, many pundits are convinced UFC middleweight king Anderson Silva has waxed his division completely clean. As a matter of fact, it can be argued he lapped the field several fights ago.
Knowing the weight class needs an injection of new challengers, the UFC has continued to develop up-and-comers and went out and signed former Bellator champ Hector Lombard. However, there’s a fresh foe that has just come out of the woodwork looking for a shot at “The Spider.”
Prior light heavyweight champ Rashad Evans (Pictured) has taken to his Twitter to beg UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta for a crack at Silva’s crown, despite the fact he’s never competed at middleweight during his eight-year career.
“@lorenzofertitta i want 2 pick a fight with the middle weight champion! Lol Make it happen!! Please!!” Evans tweeted.
Evans is fresh off a title loss to reigning 205-pound champ Jon Jones. The only other blemish on his résumé also took place in a championship affair when Lyoto Machida put him to sleep to steal his hardware.
While many would argue Evans needs to prove himself in the lighter division prior to standing opposite Silva, Fertitta definitely saw “Suga’s” plea on his Twitter feed.
“Let’s hear from the masses. Who should silva fight next? #bones, #Gsp, #rashad, winner of Munoz/Weidman on Wednesday? Bisping too,” Fertitta asked the Twitter universe late Sunday night.
