‘UFC on FUEL TV: Munoz vs. Weidman’ Live Results and Play-by-Play

“UFC on FUEL TV: Munoz vs. Weidman” is jumping off inside HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. Facebook kicked off tonight’s festivities and now the action has moved over to Fuel TV.

Fans simply have to “Like” the UFC’s Facebook page in order to watch the scraps live.

FUEL TV will then broadcast the main card starting at 8PM ET/5PM PT.

A critical middleweight showdown with Mark Munoz and Chris Weidman headlines the freebie fight card. A light heavyweight shootout between Joey Beltran and James Te Huna will serve as the co-featured attraction.

Here are the official results and play-by-play from tonight’s action:

Preliminary Card:


Rapahel Assuncao Defeated Issei Tamura via TKO (Strikes) :25 in the 2ndRound

1stRound: Assuncao begins by establishing his leg kicks. Tamura counters Assuncao’s straight right with one of his own that rocks him for a second. Assuncao is really targeting Tamura’s lead leg with inside and outside kicks. Tamura eats a spinning back kick and eats a few knees to his chest. 10-9 Assuncao.

2ndRound: Tamura steps in but Assuncao lands a left that drops Tamura and he pounces on his wounded opponent with punches before the referee steps in to stop the fight.

Marcelo Guimaraes Defeated Dan Stittgen via Split Decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28)

1stRound: Both fighters exchange kicks before Guimaraes ties up Stittgen in the clinch. Stittgen is doing a great job of defending the takedown for pretty much the entire round. 10-9 Guimaraes.

2ndRound: Stittgen drops Guimaraes with a legkick and rushes in, but once again gets caught up in a body clinch up against the cage. Stittgen finally breaks away and throws a combination of punches that wakes up the quiet arena. Both fighters are starting to show some fatigue. Guimaraes shoots in for another takedown attempt, but is stuffed until the referee breaks the fighters up. 10-9 Stittgen.

3rdRound: Strikes are thrown, but nothing significant lands. Guimaraes seems to have given up on trying to take the fight to the ground. Leg kick and straight left combo lands for Guimaraes. Nothing that Stittgen is throwing has any steam behind it. Guimaraes once again cliches up and is yelling after every punch he throws which causes the crowd to respond with boos. 10-9 Guimaraes.

Andrew Craig Defeated Rafael Natal via KO (Kick) at 4:52 in the 2ndRound

1stRound: Natal barely misses on a looping overhand right. Each fighter is landing solid leg kicks, but Natal’s seem to have more impact. Natal keeps motioning to Craig to move forward with his fingers. Takedown attempt by Natal fails. 10-9 Natal.

2ndRound: Natal lands a left hook that rocks Craig, he follows up with more punches as Craig is trying to survive. Craig gets back to his feet, Natal takes him down and briefly gets into the full mount against the cage. Craig somehow reverses potion and ends up Natal’s guard. Craig lands a big right head kick, Natal crumbles to his back, Craig finishes him off.

Chris Cariaso Defeated Josh Ferguson via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

1stRound: Ferguson rushes in with punches and attempts to take the fight to the ground. Right punch lands for Ferguson, straight left lands for Cariaso that wobbles Ferguson’s legs. Cariaso ends up in Ferguson’s guard, but Cariaso lets Ferguson back up after failing to finish. Ferguson puts Cariaso on his back with a double leg. Right head kick misses for Ferguson, but he uses the momentum to land a spinning back kick with his left that lands flush, but Cariaso shrugs it off. Big elbows land for Cariaso against the cage before taking Ferguson down. 10-9 Cariaso.

2ndRound: Cariaso is getting the better of the standup, Ferguson shoots in for a takedown but is unsuccessful. Cariaso lands a solid straight right counter. A lot of back and forth action in the clinch before Cariaso takes Ferguson down and lands solid elbows and punches to end the round. 10-9 Cariaso.

3rdRound: Ferguson’s failed takedown puts him on his back in a half guard. Cariaso scores another takedown with a sweep. Cariaso takes Ferguson’s back, but Ferguson uses a kimura to reverse the position and ends up on Cariaso’s back. 10-9 Ferguson.

Alex Caceres Defeated Damacio Page via Submission (Triangle Choke) at 1:27 in the 2ndRound

1stRound: Page rushes in, Caceres dances away clean. Page lands a bodylock takedown and begins to ground and pound. Caceres is active from the bottom, but he’s taking some damage in the process. Caceres locks in a triangle choke that Page escapes, then transitions into an armbar, but Page escapes again. 10-9 Page.

2ndRound: Caceres throws a knee, Page catches him and takes the fight back to the ground. Caceres sinks in another triangle choke that forces Page to tap.

Main Card:


Rafael Dos Anjos Defeated Anthony Njokuani via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

1stRound: Dos Anjos lands a straight left that causes Njokuani to spin around and stumble. Njokuani eats a right uppercut, but shrugs that one off. Dos Anjos starts to focus his attack on Njokuani’s lead leg. Another uppercut by Dos Anjos, but Njokuani counters with a punch-kick combination. 10-9 Dos Anjos.

2ndRound: Njokuani lands a leg kick that Dos Anjos counters with a right hook that rocks Njokuani’s jaw. After some clinch work, Dos Anjos is finally able to get Njokuani to the ground. 10-9 Dos Anjos.

3rdRound: Dos Anjos counters an Njokuani kick with a left hook that lands flush. Dos Anjos locks in a double leg and slams Njokuani to the mat right into half guard. Dos Anjos beings to ground and pound Njokuani, who fights back up to his feet as the bout ends. 10-9 Dos Anjos.

T.J. Dillashaw Defeated Vaughan Lee via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) at 2:33 in the 1stRound

1stRound: Four punch combo to start by Dillashaw catches nothing but air. Lee throws back and lands a couple to Dillashaw’s face and body, including a knee to the gut. Lee misses on a head kick that allows Dillashaw to slam him down. Dillashaw hops onto Lee’s back and sinks in a rear naked choke that forces Lee to tap.

Francis Carmont Defeated Karlos Vemola via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) at 1:39 in the 2ndRound

1stRound: Vemola quickly goes for a takedown and lands in side control. Carmont gets up and scores a takedown of his own and is also in side control. Carmont moves to full mount with a americana lock, but Vemola escapes. Carmont shoots for a takedown, Vemloa jumps to full guard with a guillotine attempt. 10-9 Carmont.

2ndRound: Vemola eats a front kick and pushes forward. Carmont drops down and has a crucifix and transitions to Vemola’s back and locks in a rear naked choke that forces the tap.

Aaron Simpson Defeated Kenny Robertson via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

1stRound: Robertson lands a couple knees from the muay thai clinch. Simpson tries to take Robertson down but eats a huge left hook that wobbles his legs. From the body clinch, Simpson lands an elbow after eating a knee in the chest. Simpson takes Robertson down as the round ends. 10-9 Robertson.

2ndRound: Simpson takes Robertson’s back in the clinch, Robertson throws a spinning backfist that misses and allows Simpson to take him down. Simpson moves to Robertson’s back and peppers him with solid strikes to Robertson’s head. 10-9 Simpson.

3rdRound: Simpson once again ends up on top of Robertson and attempts an inverted triangle. Another big takedown for Simpson who begins to ground and pound Robertson’s face. Simpson transitions to side control and looks for an armbar, but decides to try and pound Robertson out with punches as the bout ends. 10-9 Simpson.

James Te Huna Defeated Joey Beltran via Unanimous Decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27)

1stRound: Te Huna lands a straight right to start. Right uppercut backs up Beltran who circles away. Another straight right scores for Te Huna, Beltran lands a kick to Te Huna’s body. Te Huna is turning it on with uppercuts to Beltran’s body and face. Beltran eats another straight right followed by several other punches. While stunned, Beltran throws back and lands a couple punches of his own and clinches Te Huna up against the cage. A left hook rocks then drops Beltran, Te Huna lands in full mount but Beltran gets back up and survives the round. 10-9 Te Huna.

2ndRound: Beltran throws a straight right and a head kick that gets blocked. Te Huna scores an easy takedown but can’t free himself to inflict any damage so the referee stands them up. Solid body kick lands for Beltran. Te Huna throws a three punch combo, 2 to the body and 1 to the head that scores. Pace has slowed down considerably. Short left from Beltran drops Te Huna as the round ends. 10-9 Te Huna.

3rdRound: A pair of rights land for Te Huna that back Beltran up. Beltran lands solid punches and an elbow out of the clinch. Te Huna opts to take Beltran down when Beltran gets back up, Te Huna lands big punches to Beltran’s body and head. Beltran times Te Huna’s kick and takes him to the ground but can’t keep him down. Another elbow lands for Beltran. Both fighters continuing trading bombs until the fight ends to the delight of the crowd. 10-9 Te Huna.

Chris Weidman Defeated Mark Munoz via TKO (Strikes) at 1:37 in the 2ndRound

1stRound: Weidman gets the early takedown and moves into side control. Munoz gets up but eats a couple knees on the way. Weidman lands a couple of short elbows from the top, Weidman almost secures a guillotine but Munoz escapes. 10-9 Weidman.

2ndRound: Munoz gets taken down early but fights back up. Straight right lands for Weidman followed by an  elbow that catches Munoz right on the button. Weidman pounces on top with punches until the referee stops the bout.
