A welterweight scrap between James Head (Pictured) and Brian Ebersole served as the second bout to air in Saturday’s “UFC 149: Faber vs. Barao” pay-per-view broadcast.

Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada is hosting tonight’s festivities. The show is headlined by an interim bantamweight title affair between Urijah Faber and Renan Barao.

Here is the play-by-play from Ebersole vs. Head:


Head stuffs a weak takedown attempt. Ebersole eats a one-two combination. Head unleashes a barrage against the fence. Ebersole nails him with a combo and caps it off with big left. Head attempts a guillotine choke, but Ebersole isn’t fazed. He escapes and ends up in top position. Ebersole drops a right bomb. Head pushes him off. Ebersole tires a cartwheel kick, but comes up empty.


Ebersole immediately goes for a shot and Head successfully sprawls. Head lands a couple of punches. Ebersole connects on an uppercut. Not too much action in the middle stanza. Head clocks him with a knee to the dome, but gets taken down for his efforts. Head sweeps just before the horn sounds. Close round to score.


Head clocks him with a right hand, Ebersole counters with a leg kick. Ebersole is unsuccessful on another takedown attempt. Head is starting to win the standup battle. Head takes his back and drags him to the mat. They’re back to their feet. Head stuffs yet another takedown try. The crowd rains down boos for the first time tonight. It will be interesting to see how this scrap is scored.
