Ian McCall’s abrupt entry and exit from “UFC on FOX: Shogun vs. Vera” has opened the door for Ulysses Gomez to make his big league debut. Gomez now meets fellow Octagon rookie John Moraga in the August 4th show.
Gomez was a standout for Tachi Palace Fights, where he became the promotion’s first flyweight champ. After successfully defending his crown, he transitioned to the bantamweight division in December to capture the 135-pound title.
“Useless” will now shed 10 pounds to meet Moraga in a flyweight affair.
Moraga makes his big league debut riding a four-fight winning streak. He trains in Arizona under the tutelage of reigning UFC lightweight champ Benson Henderson at MMA Lab.
Their 125-pound tango will stream live on the UFC’s Facebook page.
In addition, MMAJunkie is reporting the heavyweight shootout between Matt Mitrione and Rob Broughton has been pulled from the lineup so Broughton can attend to “personal matters.”
FOX broadcasts the main bouts live beginning at 8PM ET/5PM PT.
Staples Center in Los Angeles hosts the shindig.
