Although Alan Belcher is petitioning for a tango with Vitor Belfort (Pictured), “The Phenom” has his sights set on the middleweight division’s latest flavor of the month.
Belfort believes he and Chris Weidman should fight, with the victor advancing to a title affair against UFC 185-pound king Anderson Silva. The Brazilian has already submitted his request to the Octagon’s matchmaker.
“Guys I spoke to joe silva and ask to fight with the top contender #weidman here in brasil so I think this is the fight that will credence me to a title fight so that is what happened,” Belfort tweeted Tuesday morning. “I want the belt but I am not desperate I think weidman is the next for the belt, but Anderson silva deserve to see who is next.
“So let’s make this fight the next #contender belfort vs weidman the next contender for #andersonsilva.”
While Belfort believes the scrap makes perfectly good sense, Weidman professes he’s already passed the former top contender on the middleweight totem pole. The “All American” thinks he should have secured his next dibs status by disposing of Mark Munoz earlier this month.
“Love ya @vitorbelfort but you already had your shot at the belt and Im sure u will have another in the future.Rt now is my time though,” Weidman countered.
UFC president Dana White said Saturday he’ll have answers for his suddenly deep middleweight division within a few days. So perhaps MMA’s ultimate shot caller will be providing clarity shortly.
