It was confirmed yesterday by M-1 Global that Strikeforce light heavyweight champ Gegard Mousasi would be participating in their co-promoted “Strikeforce: Fedor vs Rogers” primetime event on November 7th. The only bummer is that it appears it won’t be for his strap.
Strikeforce executive Mike Afromowitz confirmed Mousasi’s non-title affair with MMAjunkie.com yesterday afternoon.
Although M-1 took the liberty of volunteering former WEC middleweight champion Paulo Filho and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou as potential opponents, Afromowitz said there are a lot of names being thrown around, however nothing is close to being finalized.
Afromowitz did mention that they were in talks with undefeated Muhammed Lawal, however they were not able to come to terms with “King Mo.”
Mousasi was last seen slapping the snot out of Renato “Babalu” Sobral at “Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg” in August where it took him all of 60 seconds to put Babalu to sleep. Oh yeah, Mousasi jacked his 205-pound title while he was laid-out on the canvas too.
The impressive W bumped his record to a ridiculous 22-6-1, and he has been perfect through his last 13.
“Strikeforce: Emelianenko vs. Rogers” will be jumping off inside the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The show will mark the American primetime television debut of WAMMA heavyweight champ Fedor Emelianenko, and will be the first of a multi-event deal between Strikeforce and CBS.
Here are the other fighters rumored to be competing in the extravaganza:
Bobby Lashley vs. TBD
Fabricio Werdum vs. TBD
Gegard Mousasi (Non-title Bout – Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion) vs. TBD
Jason Miller vs. Jake Shields (Open Strikeforce Middleweight Title)
Brett Rogers vs. Fedor Emelianenko (WAMMA Heavyweight Champion)
