The injury bug strikes again. Following Saturday night’s press conference, UFC president Dana White revealed skyrocketing welterweight Rory MacDonald (Pictured) suffered a significant cut on his forehead that will force him out of his UFC 152 scrap against BJ Penn.
According to White, the 23-year-old got the gash during Saturday’s training session. MacDonald needed 38 stitches to close the cut and isn’t allowed to engage in any contact for a month.
White just got the news tonight, so he is unsure of what to do with Penn, who came out of retirement specifically to face “Ares.”
Penn abruptly called it quits after dropping a convincing unanimous decision loss to Nick Diaz at UFC 137 in October. The Hawaiian holds a 16-8-2 professional mark and is the only fighter in UFC history to don the welterweight and lightweight titles.
Air Canada Centre in Toronto hosts the September 22nd event.
