On Wednesday, it was announced Jake Ellenberger (Pictured) will welcome Jay Hieron back to the big leagues at “UFC 151: Jones vs. Henderson.”
Ellenberger was slated to co-headline the pay-per-view broadcast opposite Josh Koscheck, but Kos was forced to withdraw from the September 1st scrap on Monday with a herniated disc in his back. It is believed the new matchup will still serve as the show’s co-featured attraction.
“The Juggernaut” was upset by Martin Kampmann in his last outing. Ellenberger had rattled off six consecutive victories prior to coming into contact with Kampmann’s knee.
Hieron will be riding an 11-1 run into the Octagon. The veteran’s lone blemish during his current streak came via split decision to Bellator champ Ben Askren last October. The 36-year-old lost both of his bouts under the UFC’s watch, with his last appearance coming in October of 2005.
FYI – In June 2006, Hieron posted a unanimous decision win over Ellenberger in an IFL bout.
Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada headlines the festivities.
