As anticipated, a pair of thrilling scraps will headline Strikeforce’s November 3rd show. On Thursday, the UFC’s little brother confirmed Heavyweight Grand Prix champion Daniel Cormier meets Frank Mir (Pictured) in the card’s featured attraction, while middleweight champ Luke Rockhold defends his throne against Lorenz Larkin in the co-main event.
Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma hosts the festivities.
“As a former Oklahoma State wrestler and two-time Olympian, Cormier has used his wrestling background to immediately put himself among the sport’s elite,” said Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker. “On November 3 he faces his toughest opponent to date in former UFC heavyweight champ Frank Mir, who has beaten legend after legend on his own path to the title.
“We’ve had a lot of big heavyweight bouts in the history of Strikeforce, but I can tell you, without a doubt, that this is the one that you don’t want to miss.”
The 265-pound affair has been common knowledge for quite some time. However, Rockhold’s next assignment just hit the rumor mill a couple of days ago. Now things are officially official.
“Rockhold is rapidly approaching his first full year of being middleweight champ and he’s definitely opened a lot of eyes in that time,” Coker added. “He’s beaten three top contenders, successfully defended the belt twice and looked extremely impressive in doing so. This bout could easily be the toughest matchup he’s seen yet due to Larkin’s equally impressive standup.”
Tickets for the event go on sale next Wednesday.
Showtime Extreme will air the prelims at 8PM ET/PT, while Showtime takes care of the main card at 10PM ET/PT. As customary with all MMA events on Showtime, only fans with access to an east coast feed will be able to watch the bouts live.
No other fights have been confirmed for the lineup.
