FiveOuncesOfPain.com is reporting that if Georges St-Pierre is able to successfully defend his UFC welterweight title at UFC 87 against Jon Fitch, he will then be slated to take on current UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn on December 27th in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The website stated that they had, “learned from multiple sources” that as long as St-Pierre walks away victorious and healthy against Fitch on August 9th, Penn will get the welterweight match that he has waited over two years for.
St-Pierre and Penn initially squared off at UFC 58. It was Penn’s return to the Octagon after a three year hiatus due to a contract dispute. The two fought to a very close decision that St-Pierre won. However, some feel that Penn may have won because he inflicted more damage.
The actual numbered UFC is yet to be determined, however the date is pretty much set. This card is also believed to feature a heavyweight title bout between current interim champion, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, defending against Frank Mir. The two will be fresh off of their coaching positions on The Ultimate Fighters Season 8.
