All signs indicate that UFC interim welterweight champ Carlos Condit (Pictured) is the only thing standing between a blockbuster bout with 170-pound king Georges St-Pierre and middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Although Condit has been on a torrid run since 2006, having lost just one of his 14 scraps during that span, the lone thing anyone wants to talk about heading into his UFC 154 showdown with St-Pierre is the hotly rumored mega-fight between “The Spider” and “Rush” should GSP reign supreme.
Unfortunately for fight fans, Condit is keen on killing all that chatter and is fully prepared to rain on the MMA world’s parade.
“I would say that it’s definitely motivating. I like playing the role of the spoiler,” Condit stated during this week’s conference call. “There’s a lot of people in the sport and in the media that I think are overlooking me as an opponent for Georges and are looking towards a super-fight with Anderson Silva.
“I don’t feel Georges is overlooking me, but I’m excited to get in there and do my thing and hopefully change a lot of [people’s] plans.”
While “The Natural Born Killer” intends on single-handedly killing the most anticipated pound-for-pound bout in the sport’s history, that doesn’t mean Silva vs. St-Pierre isn’t a scrap he wouldn’t mind seeing. Oh, the irony…
“Yeah, I think so,” Condit said of wanting to witness the fantasy fight. “They’re two of the greatest fighters to have ever stepped in the Octagon and there’s always that interest in seeing who really is the best.
“But first things first, Georges and I have to do our thing.”
St-Pierre and Condit look to unify the welterweight crown inside Bell Centre in Montreal. Nobody knows what will happen on November 17th, but we know what could go down if Condit cooperates – but that’s highly unlikely.
