Nineteen years after the Ultimate Fighting Championship hosted their first event, and one year after UFC president Dana White claimed a women would never set foot inside of his Octagon, TMZ.com is reporting Strikeforce bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey (Pictured) has joined the planet’s premier mixed martial arts promotion.
According to the celebrity gossip website, Rousey will relinquish her Strikeforce crown and automatically become the UFC’s 135-pound queen. No word on who she will make her first title defense against in 2013.
Will the UFC start things off with a bang by arranging the hotly rumored super-fight with former Strikeforce featherweight champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos or will the organization give the “Rowdy” one another opponent in order to build up to it?
Rousey’s résumé reads a perfect 6-0, with all of her fights ending in 1stRound armbar submission fashion. The 25-year-old was last seen in August disposing of Sarah Kaufman.
In addition, Strikeforce announced Thursday evening that their January 12th event would feature three championship affairs. According to TMZ, the UFC’s little brother is going for broke because the card will mark the promotion’s final show.
