Three UFC champions down, five more to go. Reigning heavyweight king Junior dos Santos (Pictured) announced Tuesday he is the latest mixed martial artist to don the iconic Swoosh.
“I want to share my happiness with you guys because now I’m part of team #NIKE biggest sports brand in the world It’s an honor t me Thank GOD,” dos Santos tweeted.
Terms of dos Santos’ Nike deal were not disclosed.
FUEL TV’s UFC Tonight first reported the possibility a couple weeks ago.
“Cigano” joins light heavyweight champ Jon Jones and middleweight champion Anderson Silva as the only UFC fighters to endorse the most popular athletic label on the planet. “Bones” and “The Spider” reportedly have global agreements.
Dos Santos’ agreement is believed to be regional, so his Nike ads will only appear in his homeland of Brazil.
The 28-year-old has been sponsored by Pretorian in his last two fights – in November’s championship clinching knockout victory over Cain Velasquez and in his only title defense when he put Frank Mir down at UFC 146.
The likeable slugger will defend his hardware against Velasquez on December 29th at UFC 155 in Las Vegas. Dos Santos will debut his Swoosh gear then.
