And then there were 12, as in only twelve bouts that will appear in tonight’s “UFC 154: St-Pierre vs. Condit” event. Just hours before the curtain is drawn on Saturday’s show, middleweight Constantinos Philippou announced opponent Nick Ring (Pictured) has been forced to withdraw from their scrap.
“bad news guys! My fight got cancelled… Nick got sick and he can’t fight,” Philippou tweeted. “Needless to say Im disappointed that I wont be fighting tonight. I trained hard and was looking forward to giving everyone a show. Next time”
UFC officials subsequently reported the lightweight affair between Rafael dos Anjos and Mark Bocek would be promoted to the main card in its place. The featherweight fight with Rodrigo Damm and Antonio Carvalho, which was originally slotted to stream on Facebook, now gets bumped to the FX broadcast.
No word from the promotion on what exactly prevented doctors from providing Ring with medical clearance. According to Philippou’s manager, Lex McMahon, the UFC will pay him his show purse.
UFC 154 takes place inside Bell Centre in Montreal.
