UFC welterweight Josh Koscheck confirmed Friday evening via his Twitter account that he will be facing red-hot Mike Pierce at “UFC Fight Night 20.” Shockingly, he had a message for welterweight king Georges St-Pierre as well. Let’s just hope they don’t know how to use Twitter up in Canada.
“Fighting January 11 2010 spike tv vs Mike Pierce UFN 20 Like I said don’t care who I fight or where just get me someone who wants to fight,” Kos Tweeted.
This is an important contest for Koscheck, who has gone a mundane 2-2 over his last four bouts. There’s a significant difference between going 3-2 and 2-3 in the UFC’s deep welterweight division, but the bad news is the organization didn’t do him any favors by pitting him against a confident Pierce.
Pierce holds an impressive 10-1 record and is enjoying a six-fight winning streak. He pulled off an impressive unanimous decision upset win over Brock Larson at “UFC Fight Night 19” last month.
What impresses UFC brass the most about Pierce is that six of his W’s have come via vicious TKO, so this match could be explosive as Kos has shown a recent propensity to want to keep fights standing.
In addition, consider where the victor might end up on the UFC’s 170-pound totem pole. If you ask Kos, a win earns him a mulligan against the division’s golden boy.
“Bad news! Not fighting matt Hughes 🙁 but the good news is…. I’ll be wipping GSP’s ass real soon!!,” Koscheck Tweeted moments before confirming his January 11th tango.
