As promised, former UFC heavyweight champ Josh Barnett (Pictured) will in fact fight one final time in Strikeforce. Coincidentally, the January 12th event is reportedly the promotion’s last show.
According to MMAJunkie, Barnett will battle little known Nandor Guelmino. The 265-pounders are expected perform in the main card, which airs on Showtime at 10PM ET/PT.
“The Warmaster” makes his return to action after a unanimous decision defeat to Daniel Cormier in the finals of Strikeforce’s Heavyweight Grand Prix. The 35-year-old broke his hand in the May contest and has been riding the pine ever since.
Now that Strikeforce’s heavyweight division – and possibly the organization altogether – will be a thing of the past, will this mark Barnett’s swan song with Zuffa, LLC?
Guelmino owns a 11-3-1 professional record. He has never competed on a stage this bright or against an opponent as accomplished.
Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma will serve as host.
Here is the card’s current roster:
Lorenz Larkin vs. TBD
Ryan Couture vs. K.J. Noons
Pat Healy vs. Jorge Masvidal
Nandor Guelmino vs. Josh Barnett
Mike Kyle vs. Gegard Mousasi
Danie Cormier vs. Dion Staring
Tarec Saffiedine vs. Nate Marquardt (Strikeforce welterweight champion)
