UFC heavyweight competitor, Fabricio Werdum, has signed a five-fight contract extension with the organization. Werdum, who is fresh off of his controversial victory over Brandon Vera at UFC 85, said the he is likely to face UFC newcomer Junior “Cigano” dos Santos at UFC 90.

Werdum told the Brazilian website, TATAME, that as long as he is victorious in his UFC 90 bout, he will receive a title shot next.

Current UFC interim heavyweight champion, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, will be defending his title against Frank Mir at a UFC card in December. The two are rival coaches on The Ultimate Fighter Season 8, which is set to air in September.

“I want to be the UFC heavyweight champion,” Werdum told the website. “A final (fight) against “Minotauro” (Nogueira) would be like a dream. It would be great for me because I fought against him [in] PRIDE, and it was a great fight. He deserved the victory.”

With the lack of depth that the UFC has in the heavyweight division, it was clear that they needed to keep the talented Werdum in their organization.

UFC 90 is scheduled to take place in Chicago, Illinois at the Allstate Arena on October 25th.
