Entering this past Saturday’s scrap with BJ Penn, welterweight Rory MacDonald was challenged by Penn to undergo random drug testing conducted by VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association). While MacDonald obliged with “The Prodigy’s” request, he admitted that the process was a bit “annoying.”

The distraction of having an agent pounding on his door unannounced demanding a urinalysis is why Matt Mitrione (Pictured) declined Roy Nelson’s invitation to experience the VADA  process with him leading into this weekend’s shootout.

“Roy asked me, I don’t remember what day it was, whatever day it was, it was probably a week-and-a-half something like that ago,” Mitrione shared during Monday’s conference call. “I had a bunch of other things going on. It felt like it was a little bit of a distraction, I just wasn’t able to.

“Since I was coming on somewhat short notice, cutting a couple weeks out of my camp and training for a five-round fight, this is something I wanted to make sure I didn’t have anything that could distract me. I have no problem with being tested, people can come and test me whenever they want. It’s a couple weeks out on my training camps, I was so intent on getting my blinders put on, I cut my career off, I canceled my Twitter.”

The avid tweeter didn’t technically “cancel” his account on the social media network. Until yesterday, he hadn’t posted anything since November 27th.

In any event, Nelson is now posting a bagel with VADA after getting shot down by Shane Carwin prior to the former interim heavyweight champ’s abrupt exit from Saturday’s bout.

“Actually, it wasn’t that big of a deal,” Nelson revealed. “I asked him and it’s either a yes or no question and that’s all I can do is ask for it and you either take it or you don’t.

“So far I’m 0 for 2.”

Mitrione, Nelson and Carwin have never flunked a drug screening.
