It appears that a lightweight scrap between Nate Diaz and Gray Maynard is set for “UFC Fight Night 20” on January 11th. Although the contest has not been officially confirmed by the organization, it’s likely the bout will be the night’s main event.
GracieFighter.com, the website run by Diaz’ long-time coach, Cesar Gracie, made the announcement today.
Maynard holds a perfect 8-0 record and was last seen taking a close split decision over Roger Huerta this past month at “UFC Fight Night 19.” Word on the street is he will earn top contender status with a W.
Diaz headlined that same Fight Night event and looked sensational in catching Melvin Guillard in a guillotine choke in the 2ndRound of their bout. The victory was an important one for Diaz as he had dropped his previous two.
Diaz will take an 11-4 record into the Patriot Center on the campus of George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
Here are the fighters rumored to be competing in the Spike TV broadcast:
Jessie Lennox vs. Rick Story
Mike Guymon vs. Rory MacDonald
Chris Leben vs. Jay Silva
Tom Lawlor vs. Aaron Simpson
Efrain Escudero vs. Nik Lentz
Josh Koscheck vs. Mike Pierce
Nate Diaz vs. Gray Maynard
