Melvin Guillard (Pictured) doesn’t believe “cowardly” Jamie Varner deserves another opportunity to fight him, but as UFC president Dana White promised, the lightweights will in fact be last-minute additions to next Saturday’s “UFC 155: Dos Santos vs. Velasquez II” lineup.
The 155-pounders were initially slated to square-off this past weekend at “The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale.” However, just minutes before taking center stage, Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer pulled Varner from the bout because the former WEC champ was blowing chunks backstage and was far too ill to compete.
Guillard claimed Varner was too scared, homie, to face him after seeing the look in his rival’s eyes the day before at weigh-ins.
Both athletes are looking to bounce back from disappointing losses. Guillard was last seen unconscious on the canvas after buddy Donald Cerrone knocked him out at UFC 150.
“The Young Assassin” has dropped three of his last four fights.
Varner, meanwhile, was submitted by Joe Lauzon this past August at “UFC on FOX 4.” He’s victorious in three of his last four scraps.
White hinted the shootout could get promoted to the pay-per-view portion of the UFC 155 broadcast, but the scrap will appear in the FX prelims.
MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada hosts the festivities.
