The California State Athletic Commission announced the medical suspensions resulting from the Affliction:Banned event, which took place July 19th. Nine out of the 20 competitors will be forced to sit the sidelines for varied amounts of time, including main event fighters Tim Sylvia and Fedor Emelianenko.

Fabio Nascimento: Suspended 45 days with no contact, 30 days for precautionary reasons
Terry Martin: Suspended 45 days with no contact, 30 days for precautionary reasons
Vitor Belfort: Suspended 180 days with no contact, 180 days due to undisclosed reasons*
Mike Whitehead: Suspended 180 days with no contact, 180 days due to a left-hand injury*
Pedro Rizzo: Suspended 45 days with no contact, 30 days for precautionary reasons
Edwin Dewees: Minimum suspension of 45 days with no contact, 30 days for precautionary reasons. Suspended 180 days with no contact for 180 days due to undisclosed reasons*
Ben Rothwell: Minimum suspension of 45 days with no contact, 30 days for precautionary reasons. Suspended 60 days with no contact for 60 days due to an ear-lobe laceration*
Tim Sylvia: Suspended 180 days with no contact due to a left-elbow injury*
Fedor Emelianenko: Suspended 180 days with no contact, 180 days due to a right-hand injury*

It has been rumored that Rizzo, Sylvia and Emelianenko were all scheduled to compete on Affliction’s second MMA promotional event in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 11th. With these newly released medical suspensions, it is uncertain how the card will be affected.

It may be a tough sell for the start-up promotion to hold another event if their most prized fighter, Emelianenko, can’t compete against his rumored opponent, Andrei Arlovski, their second most popular fighter.

Affliction has yet to respond to the medical suspensions.
