Third time’s the charm! Rad Martinez (Pictured) and Shahbulat Shamhalaev were set to battle in the finals of Bellator’s Featherweight Tournament on December 7th until Shamhalaev was forced to withdraw at the 11th hour with a bad bout of food poisoning.
Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney initially pushed the fight back one week, but then Martinez couldn’t make the appointment because he promised to take care of his father who was injured terribly in a car accident many years ago.
Now that everyone’s availability has been cleared up, it’s time to tango. Martinez and Shamhalaev will collide February 21st inside Maverik Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
“A fight between Rad and Shahbulat would be special anywhere you put it,” said Rebney. “But to have the opportunity to make this fight happen in Salt Lake City with the ties Rad has to Utah is an incredible opportunity we couldn’t pass up. It’s been a long time coming, but February 21st is shaping up to be a huge night of fights.”
The victor scores a $100,000 paycheck and next dibs at the featherweight throne.
The card will also feature the semifinals of Bellator’s Light Heavyweight Tournament.
Spike TV broadcasts the main card starting at 10PM ET/PT.
