FiveOuncesofPain.com is reporting that the main event for Affliction’s second promotional event between former UFC heavyweight champion, Andrei Arlvoski and WAMMA heavyweight champ, Fedor Emelianenko will be scrapped. Emelianenko has been hampered by a right hand injury and apparently needs more time to heal.
There was heavy speculation that Emelianenko would be forced off the card after the California State Athletic Commission released the medical suspensions for Affliction:Banned just a few days ago. The Commission suspended Emelianenko 180 days with no contact due to a right-hand injury, although, he could have been cleared early by an Orthopedic Doctor. Obviously, two and a half months will not be sufficient time for the hand to heal.
It was reported a couple of weeks ago that Affliction would be holding their second event on October 11th at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, and these two heavyweights would headline the event. Although the newly crowned WAMMA champion can’t compete, it is reported that Arlovski may still be on the card and will instead face Josh Barnett.
After his victory over Tim Sylvia at Affliction’s debut event, Emelianenko had his right hand wrapped in ice during the post-fight press conference. At the time, he didn’t think it was anything serious.
“I think everything is ok, stated Emelianenko. “ I’m not too worried about it. I think I just popped my thumb out and I popped it back in.”
Apparently, it is more serious than he anticipated. It will be interesting to see how Affliction plans to move forward without their most popular fighter, and prized asset.
