Well, it appears the UFC believes there was something rotten in the state of Brazil on Saturday night.

Despite being handed a highly controversial no contest for his scrap against Pedro Nobre, the planet’s premier mixed martial arts promotion awarded Yuri Alcantara (Pictured) his win bonus because they believe the bantamweight got a raw deal.

UFC managing director of international development Marshall Zelaznik confirmed the news with MMAJunkie.

In the opening round of their shootout, Alcantara took Nobre’s back and was giving him the business. However, referee Dan Miragliotta abruptly stopped the assault because he thought Alcantara was unleashing illegal shots to the back of the head.

That’s when most believed Nobre began his Oscar-worthy performance. He remained face down on the canvas while doctors examined him. Nobre ultimately claimed he was unable to continue and the fight was called.

On replay, it didn’t appear that any of the strikes were illegal. Perhaps the elbow that did most of the damage, but that was before Miragliotta issued his warning, and upon further examination, the elbow was completely clean.

Nobre wobbled back to the dressing room with the help of others, while Alcantara went backstage with tears in his eyes.

“I can’t accuse him of faking, [because] I don’t know what actually happened,” the UFC tweeted on Alcantara’s behalf. “I’m sad, but I’m happy my brother won.”

Older brother Ildemar Alcantara had submitted Wagner Prado just minutes before Yuri took the Octagon.

If you were to ask UFC president Dana White, he knows exactly what happened. “That was BS!!! Pedro is an award winning actor and horrible call by Dan M,” White tweeted immediately after the verdict.

Alcantara now has a 2-1 (1 NC) record in the UFC. Although, he was well on his way to going 3-1.
