Following Wednesday’s UFC on FUEL TV 7 pre-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White confirmed Vitor Belfort (Pictured) will welcome Luke Rockhold to the big leagues at a yet-to-be announced event in Brazil.
According to White, the shootout will likely take place within the next five months and the victor could get next dibs at Anderson Silva’s middleweight crown. Presumed top contender Chris Weidman shouldn’t fret about today’s report. Based on the timeline, he should still be in line as “The Spider’s” next opponent.
Belfort is just one month removed from his TKO victory over Michael Bisping. “The Phenom” has won eight of his past 10 fights, with the lone blemishes during his current run coming to middleweight champion Anderson Silva and Jones, respectively.
The UFC revealed after the highlight reel strike that Belfort was medically prescribed testosterone replacement therapy for the scrap.
Rockhold was perfect through his nine scraps under Strikeforce en route to capturing the middleweight crown. The 28-year-old was last seen posting a unanimous decision win against Tim Kennedy in July.
He was supposed to defend his belt against Lorenz Larkin in November and again in January, but Rockhold was forced to withdraw on both occasions with a wrist injury.
