Main Bouts:

Demian Maia def. Jason MacDonald via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) in the 3rdRound
In a very entertaining 1stRound, Damian Maia sunk in a triangle choke early but MacDonald was able to escape and end up in Maia’s full-guard. MacDonald was able to get a guillotine attempt but Maia escaped and get a rear naked choke attemp that MacDonald was able to ride out. Maia was able to get into the full-mount and land some ground-and-pound as MacDonald got cut over his nose.

Jason MacDonald almost gave up an arm at the end of the round and ended up in Maia’s half-guard. The 3rdRound saw a lot of ground positioning as Maia was able to get back into the full-mount and take MacDonald’s back and land some more strikes. MacDonald taps out after Maia takes his back and sinks in a rear naked choke.

Kenny Florian def. Roger Huerta via Unanimous Decision
Both fighters started out tentative but Florian was able to take Huerta down and end up in the full-mount. Huerta was able to stand back up though as both fighters continued to exchange strikes with neither really getting a big advantage. The 2ndRound saw more of the same action that we saw in the 1st with Huerta attempting multiple Superman punches that didn’t land and Florian showing his experience advantage. Florian was able to avoid everything that Huerta threw his way as he landed knees and strikes to end the round to emphatically show his domination of the fight.

Rob Emerson def. Manny Gamburyan via TKO (Strikes) in the 1stRound
Both fighters started to feel each other out but Emerson was able to land a punch early and finished Gamburyan off only :12 seconds into the fight.

Brock Lesnar def. Heath Herring via Unanimous Decision
Lesnar starts the fight with a flying knee that knocks Herring down and stuns him. Herring starts bleeding right below his left eye as Lesnar takes Hrring down and takes his back. Lesnar easily controls the 1stRound as he pushes Herring after the round ends. As the 2ndRound transpires, Lesnar is able to continue to control Herring on the ground as he passes into full-mount and side control at will. Lesnar beings to land knees to Herring’s body.

It’s clear that Lesnar’s size advantage is starting to wear on Herring as the 2ndRound comes to a close. The 3rdRound saw much of the same as Lesnar controlled Herring until Herring tried to stand up and land some strikes. Lesnar was able to take Herring down though and control him with his size and strength.

Georges St-Pierre def. Jon Fitch via Unanimous Decision
St-Pierre begins the fight by getting a double-leg takedown on Fitch as Fitch tries to engage. When the fight gets back to its feet, St-Pierre is able to land a straight right that drops Fitch and stuns him. Smelling blood, St-Pierre pounces on Fitch and tries to finish him but Fitch is able to survive and get back to his feet but more punches by St-Pierre drop Fitch again. From there, St-Pierre starts to land some elbows and pass Fitch’s guard and end up in side-control. As the 2ndRound begins, Fitch is able to land a nice punch but is countered by a St-Pierre Superman punch.

With both figthers trying to establish their stand-up game, it’s clear that St-Pierre has the advantage in the 2ndRound but Fitch is still coming forward and pushing the champion as the 2ndRound ends. With Fitch gaining confidence, St-Pierre uses an overand right to knockout Fitch’s mouthpiece out and take his back. Fitch is bleeding as St-Pierre tries to take Fitch’s back, but Fitch is able to reverse and end up in St-Pierre’s full-guard but St-Pierre is able to escape and reverse into Fitch’s butterfly-guard. When both fighters get back to their feet, St-Pierre is able to land a knee and headkick but Fitch is able to survive once again.

With more exchanges in the 4thRound, Fitch attempts a single-leg takedown but St-Pierre is able to defend it well and score a takedown of his own. St-Pierre begins the 5thRound with a straight left and follows it up with a couple of jabs. After a sucessful spinning backfist, St-Pierre easily takes Fitch down and begins to ground-and-pound once again. With a little under 2-minutes to go, Fitch is able to get back to his feet once again but St-Pierre take Fitch down once again. Fitch has no answer for St-Pierre’s superior athleticism and striking ability.
