Less than 24 hours after announcing a bantamweight brawl between buddies Urijah Faber (Pictured) and Scott Jorgensen will now headline “The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale,” the UFC has confirmed Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada will host the April 13th festivities.
An arena of this size isn’t typically used for a TUF Finale show, but Def Leppard decided to extend their stay at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino so the popular resort was nixed at the last minute.
Obviously, The Pearl at The Palms is out of the question…
That’s not the only change the event has undergone. Flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson was slated to headline the gig against John Moraga, but “Mighty Mouse” was forced to withdraw earlier this week with an undisclosed injury.
“The California Kid” and “Young Guns” were more than happy to serve as substitutes.
“Urijah Faber is one of the best bantamweights in the world and he proved it at UFC 157 by submitting Ivan Menjivar in the first round,” UFC President Dana White said. “He’s ready to jump right back in the Octagon with Scott Jorgensen, who’s ranked seventh in the world at 135 pounds.
“Both of these guys like to finish fights. This is a really exciting main event for the TUF Finale.”
FX will broadcast the night’s featured bouts live.
