Diego Sanchez’s (pictured) return to the lightweight division is off to a rocky start. “The Dream” tipped the scale Friday at 158 pounds, two pounds over the limit for a non-title lightweight affair.

Sanchez was granted one additional hour to shed the excess weight, but the 31-year-old was unable to hit the mark. Sanchez was docked 20 percent of his show purse. A portion of that fine will go to opponent Takanori Gomi.

“Gomi better not be crying I missed weight, after I win because those 2 lbs cost 24 thousand dollars. If I could have cut it I would have :(,” Sanchez tweeted late last night. “Lesson learned what sucks is if I was in our country this would have never happened. Can you belive they don’t have distilled h2o.”

After losing to then-lightweight champ BJ Penn in December 2009, Sanchez bounced to the welterweight class. He won half of his four scraps at 170-pounds. “The Ultimate Fighter 1” winner hasn’t been seen since dropping a unanimous decision to Jake Ellenberger in February 2012.

Sanchez and Gomi meet tomorrow night inside Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. FUEL TV broadcasts the main card live in America starting at 10PM ET/7PM PT.
