Stefan Struve (pictured) proved once again that the face-to-fist defense is not the business. Not only did Struve leave Japan with a loss on his résumé, but “Skyscraper” will also take home a broken jaw for his troubles.

“Thanks for the support everybody, I wanted [referee Herb Dean] to take the tooth out of my cheek and continue but then it turned out my jaw was broken,” Struve tweeted. “45 minutes to the hospital without painkillers.. Man, please choke me out.. Jaw is hurting like crazy.. :(”

Although the seven-foot Struve enjoyed a significant reach advantage over Mark Hunt, he didn’t use his jab or kicks to keep his husky opponent at bay. Instead, the 25-year-old engaged in a shootout without blocking any of Hunt’s punches in return.

Sorry, Struve actually used his face to block Hunt’s haymakers.

Hunt ultimately put him down with a right hand-left hook combo in the third round. The finish was a little odd. Hunt walked away right when he dropped Struve, even though Dean never stepped in to call the contest.

Dean told Hunt to keep fighting, but then stopped the bout as Hunt went back to engage.

UFC on FUEL TV 8 took place Saturday night inside Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
