Among the many things welterweight top contender Nick Diaz (pictured) revealed during Thursday’s heated UFC 158 conference call was that he would jump to lightweight and middleweight to fight the respective division’s champion.

Diaz wouldn’t division hop just for the fun of it, Mr. 209 believes he would beat 155-pound champ Benson Henderson and 185-pound king Anderson Silva.

“I would take a long hard look, but if I had that option available to me, I would be honored to be in that position, and I would be gratefully accepting of that position or fight, if you will, with the 185-pound champion or the 155-pound champion,” Diaz stated. “I would take either fight, and I think I could beat either guy to win a title at both weights.

“I’d like to be the runner-up in the pound-for-pound rankings. That’s the No. 1 goal, aside from the No. 1 ranking in the welterweight division.”

Diaz has competed and excelled at welterweight for most of his controversial career. However, he did fight for the vacant EliteXC lightweight crown back in November of 2007. Diaz lost the 160-pound contest to KJ Noons via doctor’s stoppage due to cuts on his forehead.

The 29-year-old has never fought at middleweight. However, he submitted Scott Smith in a 180-pound catchweight contest as recently as 2009 while fighting under Strikeforce.

In the meantime, Diaz will have to settle for trying to become the UFC welterweight champ by dethroning Georges St-Pierre on March 16.

UFC 158 takes place inside Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. GSP and Diaz headline the pay-per-view broadcast.
