Nick Diaz set the MMA world on fire Wednesday when he skipped the UFC 158 media workouts. While people are still baffled over Diaz’s latest antic, opponent and welterweight king Georges St-Pierre (pictured) couldn’t care less about what Mr. 209 is doing – or in this case, isn’t doing.
“It’s unfair, but it doesn’t change anything in my life,” St-Pierre stated while fulfilling his media obligations. “I don’t worry about him. I only worry about myself.”
This isn’t the first time Diaz has ditched a pre-fight promotional function that St-Pierre had to attend. The bitter rivals were supposed to host back-to-back press conferences to hype their UFC 137 shootout.
However, St-Pierre was the lone man at the podium on both occasions which forced UFC president Dana White to pull Diaz from the championship affair. So Diaz’s shenanigans have become old hat for GSP.
Another thing St-Pierre isn’t worried about is whether Diaz will attend their shootout on Saturday, which marks the most anticipated 170-pound title tilt in UFC history.
“He will show up,” St-Pierre flatly stated. “It would be crazy if he didn’t. It would be so foolish. He’s going to show up for sure.”
Foolish? Well, St-Pierre did call Diaz an “uneducated fool” on last week’s unforgettable conference call…
Although, prior to the archenemies standing opposite each other inside the Octagon, there is one final promotional activity St-Pierre and Diaz will be required to participate in. Thursday’s UFC 158 pre-fight presser is scheduled to begin promptly at 1PM ET/10AM PT – give or take several minutes to accommodate Diaz, of course.
White is fully prepared to layeth the smacketh down if Diaz dares to pull another no-show.
UFC 158 takes place Saturday inside Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.
