In case you didn’t know, there was a major MMA event on Saturday night and it had nothing to do with the UFC. Actually, Dream.12 took place in the wee hours Sunday morning inside the Osaka Castle Hall in Osaka, Japan. Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem trounced James Thompson in the night’s featured bout.

It took Overeem all of 33 seconds to catch Thompson in a standing-guillotine choke. Yes, we said STANDING. The win bumped his record to an impressive 31-11 and was his sixth straight.

Lightweight superstar Eddie Alvarez looked spectacular in his win over Katsunori Kikuno as well. Alvarez subbed the talented Japanese fighter in the 2ndRound of their contest, catching him in a nasty arm triangle choke.

On a couple of side notes, it looked like someone swallowed Alistair Overeem, as the normally-chiseled heavyweight looked a tad bloated as he made his debut in Dream’s White Cage. Dream intends to use the cage at least once a year in place of the traditional ring.

Dream.12 was broadcast live on HDNet at 2AM ET/11PM PT early this morning.
