UFC president Dana White previously stated UFC 158 features an unofficial welterweight tournament because Saturday’s card showcases three critical 170-pound scraps, which include several of the division’s elite fighters and the weight class’ king in Georges St-Pierre.

Well, if we were going to break out our brackets, Carlos Condit (pictured) and Johny Hendricks would be paired right under St-Pierre and Nick Diaz.

During Thursday’s pre-fight press conference in Montreal, White promised the victor of Condit vs. Hendricks will get next dibs at the welterweight throne.

“I actually really like this fight with Carlos Condit,” White said of Hendericks’ impending shootout. “The guy who comes out of this fight the winner is definitely the #1 contender.”

This is nothing new for Hendricks, as White previously dubbed “Bigg Rigg” the welterweight top contender after putting Martin Kampmann to sleep in November, only to change course shortly after.

As far as Condit goes, it would give him the opportunity to don another belt. The former interim champion lost a title unification bout to St-Pierre in his last outing.

Hendricks is a slight -140 odds-on favorite, while “The Natural Born Killer” comes in just behind as a +110 underdog.

UFC 158 takes place Saturday inside Bell Centre in Canada. Hendricks and Condit serve as the show’s co-featured attraction.

St-Pierre defends his crown against bitter rival Nick Diaz in the main event.
