After posting a first round TKO victory on Saturday at UFC 158, Darren Elkins requested a tango with a top 10 opponent. The UFC wasted no time in granting the featherweight his wish, as the promotion announced Tuesday he’ll replace injured Clay Guida to face Chad Mendes (pictured) at UFC on FOX 7.
Elkins owns an underrated 16-2 professional record, but is perfect since dropping to featherweight five fights ago. Mendes undoubtedly marks the toughest test of his career.
Mendes was last seen steamrolling Yaotzin Meza at UFC on FX 6. The former top contender has spent a total of two minutes and 26 seconds inside the Octagon in his last two wins.
The 145-pound affair will take place in the card’s prelims.
