Some fans were up in arms after they discovered three measly stitches is what caused Alexander Gustafsson to pull out of Saturday’s highly anticipated scrap against Gegard Mousasi.
Well, as they preach in the real estate business, it’s all about LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION.
As seen in the image above, which Gustafsson posted on his official website early Wednesday morning, the light heavyweight suffered the gash just below his left eyebrow. Because the fresh wound is positioned where it could easily open back up and drastically affect his vision, the Swedish Mixed Martial Arts Federation refused to clear Gustafsson to fight in front of his hometown this weekend.
“The Mauler” said he lost balance after Thursday’s wrestling practice and cut his face against the cage.
“It is of course extremely sad when training camp has gone very well, except for the eyebrow,” Gustafsson wrote. “I am in my best form and completely ready for the match. It is also sad for my opponent, Gegard Mousasi, who has also been training long and hard for this match.
“I and my team have done everything we can to get set up and compete despite cut, it is unfortunately not in our hands anymore.”
The up-and-coming 26-year-old is expected to return to action in two to three weeks.
Mousasi now headlines UFC on FUEL TV 9 against little known Ilir Latifi, who is Gustafsson’s teammate.
