UFC president Dana White (pictured) is adamant that fighters must talk to the media to promote their upcoming scraps, just ask Nick Diaz. However, after they take center stage, White would prefer for his athletes to live by the ‘silence is golden’ mantra.

Are you reading this, Matt Mitrione? If you are, it’s too late.

Two days after snapping his two-fight losing skid, Mitirione appeared on “The MMA Hour” and unleashed an insensitive tirade on transgender fighter Fallon Fox. The UFC suspended Mitrione’s contract shortly after.

Tuesday, White addressed Mitrione’s controversial comments for the first time. He was clearly irked the heavyweight would make such non-politically correct remarks during a time when the UFC has never been more mainstream.

“Well, it’s one of those things, it’s just a pain in the ass,” White stated during today’s conference call. “First of all, he didn’t even need to be doing an interview, and I’m gonna talk to these guys. The only times these guys need to be doing interviews is leading up to fights. It ended up being a nightmare for him.

“What was the point of that interview? There was no point in it. Now, it has caused him a bunch of headache and problems, it’s caused us a bunch of headache and problems. For no reason whatsoever.

“He just fought,” White continued. “He wouldn’t fight again for another few months. He’s still over there enjoying himself in Sweden. What was the point in doing that interview? What was the upside in that interview? There was none. No upside.”

Fox underwent gender reassignment, breast augmentation and hair transplant surgeries in Bangkok in 2006. In addition to referring to the 37-year-old as a “he” throughout Monday’s interview, Mitrione called her a “sick, sociopathic, disgusting freak” – among many other things.

In yesterday’s press release, the UFC said they have suspended Mitrione’s contract pending an investigation. White did not elaborate on the consequences Mitrione is facing since he already got paid for knocking out Phil De Fries on Saturday.
