If you know nothing else about Bellator MMA, understand that the UFC’s biggest rival is all about tournaments.
In order to get a shot at each division’s respective champion, you must first win an eight-man tourney. “Fight Master: Bellator MMA,” the company’s upcoming reality show on Spike TV, will feature a tournament. The victor of the tournament will earn the right to enter Bellator’s main welterweight tournament in the fall.
This week, Bellator announced they will host a, you guessed it, tournament this summer. However, these brackets will be of the four-man variety in the heavyweight, light heavyweight and bantamweight divisions.
“We are always striving to enhance every aspect of the Bellator formula for our fighters and fans,” Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney said. “Our champions consistently defending their titles against world class challengers who’ve earned their title shots creates a win/win for those two crucial groups. Three stacked four-man tournaments over our Summer Series on Spike is another great step in our growth and evolution.”
Bellator did not reveal what the reward is for the winner of each tournament.
Participants, dates and venues will be announced shortly.
Bellator will resume with their traditional eight-man tourneys this fall.
