And then there were 12. As in only a dozen bouts that will appear at “UFC 159: Jones vs. Sonnen.”
Less than 24 hours after revealing Joe Proctor had suffered an injury that would force the lightweight out of his April 27 scrap against Al Iaquinta (pictured), the promotion announced Iaquinta has also been removed from the lineup with an undisclosed wound.
The last-minute cancellation isn’t a significant hit to the star-studded roster. The 155-pound affair was slated to appear in the card’s prelims.
Sorry, Conor McGregor. UFC 159 will roll on with 12 fights instead of the now-standard 13.
When word first broke on Proctor’s exit, McGregor offered up his services despite competing at featherweight just four days ago in Sweden.
Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey hosts the festivities.
