UFC President Dana White has announced that the promotion’s UFC 87 event this past Saturday at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota has set a live gate record for the venue of $2,252,000. The previous mark of $2,062,000 was set by a 2001 joint concert held by rock and roll legends Billy Joel and Elton John.

This was the UFC’s first-ever event in the state of Minnesota, and with this kind of success, White said that it is likely that the world’s largest MMA organization will be returning in the future. The Target Center holds 15,082 fans, however White would not confirm how many of those seats were given away for promotional purposes.

Regardless, it could not have been too many considering the revenue that the UFC was able to generate.

UFC 87 was headlined by the welterweight championship bout between Jon Fitch and Georges St-Pierre. The co-main event of the night featured former University of Minnesota wrestling All-American, Brock Lesnar, taking on Heath Hearing.
