Former IFL middleweight champion, Matt Horwich, is the latest IFL fighter to join the UFC. It has officially been announced that Horwich will be making his debut with the promotion at UFC 90 against Brazilian Jiu Jitsu specialist Ricardo Almeida.
Horwich (23-10-1), 7-4 with the IFL, trains with Matt Lindland’s Team Quest in Portland, Oregon, one of the most prestigious MMA teams in the world.
The 30-year old will add much needed depth to the UFC’s struggling middleweight division.
Horwich has now become the eighth fighter to make his way over to the UFC from the financially plagued IFL promotion. Previously, Rory Markham, Andre Gusmao, Brad Blackburn, Jim Miller, Dan Miller, Mike Massenzio, and Reese Andy all signed with the world’s premiere MMA promotion.
Almeida, has a 9-3 MMA record, and is one of the UFC’s most crafty Jiu Jitsu practitioners. He earned his black belt under the tutelage of the great Renzo Gracie.
UFC 90 will be taking place on October 25th at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. The event will be headlined by middleweight champion Anderson Silva taking on Patrick Cote.
