Johnny Bedford has been issued a new assignment with only five days remaining until the curtain is drawn on “UFC 159: Jones vs. Sonnen.”

On Monday morning, the bantamweight announced via Twitter that an undisclosed injury has forced Erik Perez out of Saturday’s shootout and that Bryan Caraway (pictured) has agreed to serve as a last-second substitute.

Caraway is victorious in three of his past four scraps. However, “Kid Lightning” will be looking to bounce back from last month’s split decision defeat to Takeya Mizugaki.

Bedford, meanwhile, is riding a three-fight winning streak into the shootout. He was last seen knocking out Marcos Vinicius Borges Pancini in December.

The 135-pound affair will air during the FX portion of the prelims.

Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey hosts Saturday’s gig.
