According to Nielsen Media Research, Saturday’s “UFC on FOX: Henderson vs. Melendez” broadcast captured an average of 3.7 million viewers. That’s down roughly 11 percent from the UFC ‘s last show on the network.

Viewership for the event peaked at 4.7 million during the card’s featured attraction, which saw lightweight champion Benson Henderson (pictured) pull out a highly controversial split decision victory over Gilbert Melendez to retain his strap.

UFC on FOX 7 was tops in the key demographics, Adults 18-34 (tie) and 18-49.

After scoring a solid 5.7 million viewers in November 2011′s debut, the numbers steadily declined for the planet’s premier mixed martial arts promotion in 2012. UFC on FOX 2 last January garnered 4.7 million viewers, while UFC on FOX 3 and UFC on FOX 4 each notched just 2.4 million viewers.

December’s UFC on FOX 5 rebounded nicely by attracting 4.4 million viewers. UFC on FOX 6 in January tallied 4.2 million viewers.

The UFC returns to primetime television on July 27. A pivotal welterweight shootout between Rory MacDonald and Jake Ellenberger is expected to headline.
