A light heavyweight contest between Phil Davis (pictured) and Vinny Magalhaes was the second bout to air live during Saturday’s “UFC 159: Jones vs. Sonnen” pay-per-view broadcast.

Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey is hosting tonight’s festivities. The show is headlined by a light heavyweight title affair between champion Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen.

1stRound:

Davis is clearly the more athletic fighter. Magalhaes lands a couple of violent leg kicks. Davis rocks him with a vicious head kick. He follows up with a straight right hand. Magalhaes appears to have recovered, as he drags the wrestler to the mat. Magalhaes is a tad careless with his attack and allows Davis to escape. Magalhaes takes an accidental eye poke, but referee Dan Miragliotta doesn’t see it and tells them to keep fighting.

5thRound scores it: Davis, 10-9.

2ndRound:

Three unanswered rights by Magalhaes. Davis secures a brief takedown, though lets him back up. Long left jab scores for Davis. Crowd getting anxious. Davis tags him with a right punch. Magalhaes eats a thunderous body shot. Magalhaes appears gassed, he’s just standing in front of him.

5thRound scores it: Davis, 10-9.

3rdRound:

Magalhaes did plenty of talking entering this scrap. He desperately needs a finish. The pace has slowed significantly. Davis’ standup looks much improved. Or Magalhaes is multiple levels behind and is being exposed. Davis doing a good job of keeping him at the end of his punches. Magalhaes tries a desperation shot to no avail. The audience is none too pleased with what they’re witnessing.
