UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva

Oh, that Dana White. The UFC president had his promoter’s cap firmly affixed during Saturday’s UFC 159 post-fight press conference, once again teasing fanboys across the globe with a potential superfight between middleweight king Anderson Silva (pictured) and…

Light heavyweight champ Jon Jones or welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, of course. The usual suspects, but this time White claims Silva contacted him immediately after Jones steamrolled Chael Sonnen far worse than the two times Silva beat him.

Silva openly petitioned for a blockbuster bout with St-Pierre back in November, but GSP wants no part of that at this point in time. So, has the 38-year-old finally turned his attention towards Jones?

“Anderson called me tonight and wants a fight,” White vague shared. “I’m not going to tell you which fight he wants, but I’m going to get to work on it as soon as possible.”

Great…

Following the presser, White remained tightlipped about any fantasy fights for Silva and told a small group of reporters that the UFC’s most decorated champion needs to focus squarely on Chris Weidman, who he meets at UFC 162.

The primary roadblock with Silva vs. St-Pierre, outside of GSP’s disinterest, is what weight the bout would take place. Also, it’s not as box office as a Silva vs. Jones.

Silva is perfect through three light heavyweight scraps in the UFC, so making the jump would be a familiar transition. Furthermore, Silva reportedly walks around at about 220 pounds, a fairly similar weight to Jones.

White previously promised fans would see one of the two superfights before the year was out. Jones will be sidelined for a while with a broken big toe, so returning to start a camp when Silva’s done with Weidman in July works out from a timing standpoint.

Just sayin’…
