Strikeforce Miesha Tate

On Tuesday evening, the UFC announced a leg injury has forced Cat Zingano out of her coaching spot on “The Ultimate Fighter 18.” Miesha Tate (pictured), the bantamweight who Zingano TKO’d in April to earn the right to tutor opposite champion Ronda Rousey and challenge for her 135-pound crown, will replace “Alpha.”

Filming for the reality show began today.

“Everyone said an Ultimate Fighter between me and Miesha would be the best,” Rousey told Yahoo’s Kevin Iole. “For some reason, I think me and Miesha are intertwined in fate like Ali and Frazier.”

Rousey will now defend her throne against Tate once filming on the show wraps. The bitter rivals previously met in March 2012. The “Rowdy” one slapped on her trademark armbar in the opening round to capture the Strikeforce belt.

Tate was originally slated to meet Liz Carmouche at “UFC on FOX: Johnson vs. Moraga,” but had no choice but to accept the promotion. No word on what’s in store for Carmouche.

TUF 18 premieres September 4 on FOX Sports 1.

For you conspiracy theorists out there, Zingano just tweeted a pic of herself on a hospital bed after surgery. It appears to be a knee injury.
