Chael Sonnen (pictured) may have buried the hatchet with UFC middleweight king Anderson Silva, but the chatty wrestler appears to still have a thing for fighting Brazilians.
After publicly requesting a scrap with Wanderlei Silva, only to receive radio silence in return, Sonnen has now set his sights on Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, who is in desperate need of an opponent for UFC 161 now that Antonio Rogerio Nogueira has been forced to withdraw from their June 15 shootout with a herniated disc.
“I HEAR BRAZILIAN CHICKEN IS OFF THE MENU,” Sonnen tweeted late Sunday night. “AMERICAN GANGSTER IS STILL AVAILABLE IF YOU WANT TO SEND YOUR WAITRESS OVER.”
The “Brazilian Chicken” Sonnen is referring to is Little Nog, of course. Uncle Chael and the Nogueira brothers have had beef for quite some time.
As far as Shogun is concerned, the UFC is hoping to keep the former light heavyweight champ in the lineup. After watching the show’s main attraction exit stage left just three weeks ago, parlayed with now having to arrange a new co-main event on 12 days’ notice, Chael P. might be exactly what UFC 161 needs to salvage the Octagon’s return to Canada.
