Ask, and you shall receive – that is if you are Chael Sonnen, of course. Hours after requesting to replace injured Antonio Rogerio Nogueira to fight Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (pictured) at UFC 161, Sonnen has apparently been granted his wish.
Brazilian outlet Globo reported the scrap Monday afternoon, though the UFC has yet to confirm the new arrangement.
Shogun has alternated between wins and losses over his past eight scraps. The former light heavyweight champion was last seen in December getting trounced by Alexander Gustafsson at UFC on FOX 5.
Speaking of getting steamrolled, Sonnen was just TKO’d by reigning 205-pound king Jon Jones at UFC 159. Prior to that, the chatty wrestler was put down by middleweight champ Anderson Silva in the most anticipated rematch in MMA history.
Shogun and Sonnen will serve as the night’s co-featured attraction.
MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Canada hosts the festivities.
