Although the Octagon is hosting a freebie event on Saturday, it hasn’t stopped the planet’s premier mixed martial arts promotion from putting the hype train in motion for “UFC 161: Evans vs. Henderson.”
It’s a pretty good decision considering the card has undergone a severe makeover with the co- and main event exiting stage left.
Interim bantamweight champ Renan Barao was supposed to headline the gig against Eddie Wineland and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua was slotted for second-to-top billing with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Barao and Little Nog were forced out with injuries.
Heavyweights Roy Nelson and Stipe Miocic now serve as the co-main attraction, while light heavyweights Dan Henderson (pictured) and Rashad Evans get the card’s top spot.
The show takes place June 15 inside MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Canada.
